Litttle Red Wagon

It sat in the driveway,
near the garage door
It waited for the little boy
to come and play with it
The waiting seemed to
stretch out to eternity,
It sat through rain storms,
Blistering sun,
The fall of snow

It was unaware that
there was another waiter,
Very conscious of
the little red wagon...
A forlorn, sad female face,
One glued to the window,
Waiting in melancholy anticipation
Seemingly riveted to
the window seat...
Sighs of pain do fog up
the window

The wait was eternal,
The sadness infernal,
The little boy had gone
to be with God...
If little red wagons could
but weep...
Like the sad face
in the window,
The driveway would
be covered in tears
night and day.
