Little White Lie
When he burst onto the political scene,
trumpeting a birther falsehood
His alt-right voter base loved it so,
to them it was all good
Don said Barack
was an illegitimate president
Claimed Obama
wasn’t an American citizen
And the only way to prove otherwise,
verify he was legit ...
was to show an authentic birth certificate
No other U.S. president
ever had to suffer such indignity
It was just another black mark
in this country’s sordid, racial history
After the birther accusation got squashed,
false allegation scrubbed in the wash
Seven years later,
Trump still never did apologize
He said it was just politics,
it wasn’t nothing but a little white lie
Only a small, minor thing
that would give him a huge, solid populist base
Which included the type of voters
who didn’t like their president having a black face
