Little One
(*based on the parable of the talents)
Now, Little One
Let’s see what has been done
with the precious bit
I left YOU with.
I have been much afraid.
Knowing you have paid
and made great sacrifice,
I could not entice
it from my hand
to spend it on some unsafe plan.
So, I have wisely buried it in the ground,
and sure enough I’ve dug around and found it.
Here, you have it, safe and sound.
I gladly give it back--perfectly intact
Little One, my heart is broken,
for this bit I left you was but a token
of the promises I’ve spoken.
I invested in YOU.
There was nothing you could do
but win.
If you had tried and failed,
you would have nailed it!
Wiser you would be
and my return I would see
in a servant made savvy.
The risk was mine,
taken to see you shine.
Little One, you were wrong from the start.
Something deep within your heart
has deceived and made you believe
that I am only to be feared,
while all along I’ve cheered you.
Please go your way.
Tomorrow yet another day
you have. While day is lit,
go make the most of it.
Don’t hide and quake,
refusing risks to take.
For surely more has been wasted
simply not being tasted
This whole misunderstanding
of you believing me to be demanding,
was because you saw less good in me
than I chose to see, in you.
