Listening For Footsteps

My heart stops.
Yet, I don't miss a beat--
    the tick-tock of time,
    the tick-tock of loss.
Footsteps' electric language
Tells a tale of unrequited love--
igniting a hope and a prayer
    that they will return someday.
Tick-Tock. Tick-Tock.
