Listen Here

presenting
I hear my voice but I'm behind myself
watching the room
like the dead in the white light
I scan the crowd
for the boredom factor
there's a lot
who could blame them
their minds are all on heart concerns
deeds undone
meals uncooked
bills unpaid
oh just listen here
maybe one word in this dry missive
might spur you on to greater thoughts
and yet
this could be refuge for some
a safe place to think away from home and work tasks
like church or
confession
a solitary drive in the car
a quiet moment
all your own

its a strange limbo you get to when you get over being nervous and can come out of yourself to assess your listeners......you can learn a lot.

Wow, Veronica, I, too, have seen the "boredom factor" when I was on the college speech and debate team. We always hope our words inspire, but not everyone is open to listening. They are, as you describe so well, consumed by their own thoughts. Listening to an inspirational voice can alleviate worry and offer hope. I can really relate to this one! Love, Carolyn
