Linger a Moment
I might be a little forward
But not in the least impetuous
To you untoward nothing have I done
Though at times I've felt rebellious
All I crave is that you linger a moment
And wipe away these tears of torment.
Those base imputations you cast upon me
Co-mingled with acts of sheer brutality
Those false accusations you piled upon me
Escorted by flowery snippets of vulgarity
They add up to naught if you'll but linger a moment
And wipe away these tears of torment.
My love, my love, can you hear me?
My love, my love, why do you turn away
I have searched far and close to me
For something to even remotely explain away
Your stubborn reluctance to linger a moment
And erase this torrent of tears from torment.
Were I a virtuous soul with a noble heart
This uncomfortable gloom and luckless despair
Would I merrily and bravely bear
But such a one I fear I'm not
And wish you would linger a moment
And kiss away these tears of torment.
