Linger
Wrote myself a letter this mornin’
ramblin' on telling you how I’ve been.
I think about you sometimes, ya
hoping you’re doing fine.
This has been the longest and shortest of times.
Time kinda sucks, don't it babe?
I left out with two feet, a heartbeat
and a mind that just won't quit.
It’s really true what they say, ya,
good things are gone; will heal in time;
thinking over the years you were mine;
but I made that choice to move away and
you're gone now; makin' life a little gray.
I walked out onto life's divin' board and dove,
right into the black shadows, round and round,
and round I go, swimmin' hard upstream babe.
I'm gonna make it one day, I know I can.
Change ain’t always gonna be what we want
most often times it's not
but we’ve got to keep goin' on,
keep rollin' on; being strong.
I just know that everything will be fine,
even though a part of me still wishes
that you were mine.
Hand in hand you were my best friend
it was a fairytale kinda love.
You knew me better than anyone else back then;
with a peaceful grace and a forehead kiss.
I got to experience you for that time and
think of you often in the dead of night.
Whether I’m at the grocery store in line
or sittin' on my bed strummin' my guitar
it doesn't seem to matter babe;
there you are, with me, one-more-time.
Change ain’t always gonna be what we want,
no most often times it's not
but we’ve got to, got to, ya we’ve got to
keep going; we’ve got to be strong
ya babe strong. But...
I just keep ramblin' on, keep on movin' along,
tryin' to escape the black shadows, swimmin’ hard babe,
until my breath stops a flowin’.
