Not that long ago, humans were hunter-gatherers living in caves. And copying Neanderthals, we figured out how to create fire. But unlike them, we learned how to grow crops and construct shelters; that edge allowed us to survive. We developed language and writing and invented tools that built cities and then empires. But we were far from perfect we implemented slavery and slaughtered the innocent, and being both brutal and territorial, we were always at war. And yet, Mankind persevered despite our flaws, driven by intelligence and cunning. We learned how to harness electricity, achieved flight and split the atom. And we're making progress toward accepting each other's differences, though we're not there yet. But in the meantime, we landed on the moon and sent rovers to Mars. The whole world is internet-connected, and all the world's knowledge is now as near as the phone in our hand. I can only guess what tomorrow will be like, for we are an incredible species, and we continue to climb technology's ladder, placing limitless possibilities within our reach.

Emile, for me your line "And we're making progress towards accepting each other's differences," was most important. I loved the optimism of your poem. I'm a bit tired of all the apolcalyptic doom and gloom! Thanks for writing this poem, which is certainly worthy of POTD!
