Limitless Possibilities

Not too long ago,
humans were hunter-gatherers living in caves.
And along with the Neanderthals,
we figured out how to create fire.
But unlike them, we also learned how to sow crops,
domesticate animals, and construct shelters.
That edge allowed us to survive.
We developed language and writing
and invented tools that built cities and empires.
But we were not without fault,
for we condoned slavery and the slaughter of the innocent.
Both brutal and territorial,
we perfected genocide through the scourge of war.
And yet, we persevered despite our flaws,
driven by intelligence and cunning.
We've made some progress towards accepting
each other's differences:
but we're not there yet.
We've learned to harness electricity,
achieve flight, and split the atom.
We even landed on the moon
and sent rovers to Mars.
Today, our planet is internet-connected
so that all of Man's accumulated knowledge
is as close as the phone in our hands.
We are an incredible species;
I can only guess what tomorrow will bring.
For we will continue to climb technology's ladder;
placing limitless possibilities
within everyone's reach.
