Like Slow Water

He sat there in the dark corner of the bar Alone and lost in his thoughts Surrounded by the smell of stale alcohol and regret. Drink had become a bottomless crystal that allowed him to look down the endless corridors of his mind And listen to echos of memories trapped forever Within his soul. He remembered nights when twilight crept silently Over the world like a cheetah seeking its prey And love came caressing his cheek like the nuzzle of a gentle lamb. She was his music But he did not hear She was honey But he did not taste. She was life And he let it slip away. Now days seemed to fly as Swiftly as the eagle Seeking its nest At sundown. And there he sits night after night Alone and lost in his dream Of falling into her Like slow water.....

I like the "slow water" ending to this problem many have, Gene. Best to you in your writing endeavors. / Maurice

Once again, Maurice, I thank you for your kind comments. For what it may be worth, I wrote this piece as a challenge. A good friend challenged me to write a poem using the words "cheetah, lamb, and eagle." It took some time, this is the result.
