LIGHT AND SHADOW
sun’s out this morning
throwing its light onto the house
from my vantage point
there’s one spot that it can’t pass through—
a veranda post standing defiantly in the way
sunlight stretches around it
dancing over it
but the light can’t pierce through
the stubborn shadow on the pavement
refuses to budge
it’s long, slender silhouette bends
when it hits the brick wall
not ten minutes later
the line has inched ever so slightly to the right
as if sneaking around
behind the sun’s shifting gaze
but clever sun has figured out
that it has the power to move the shadow
and that obstinate shadow?
as soon as the sun goes
it won’t want to stay around
in the absence of light
