Life's Purpose

Life is but a blink of an eye
Yet we travel our road and often deny
That this earthly path will come to an end
What is our focus with the time we spend?

What does it mean to grieve and mourn?
It feels as though the heart is torn.
It comes from us loving another so
And the realization that we must let go.

A description of death is that of a veil.
Are our spirits happy in this body we sail?
What is the mission that we are no?
Is death when we finally see the dawn?

Most seem to carry the will to live
Does it stem from the spirit wanting to give?
What does it mean to be in utter despair?
Is it the soul needing a breath of fresh air?

Many search and look for happiness
To fulfill inside and emptiness
They scurry here and they scurry there
Reflection and stillness are so rare. 

What is it that would bring satisfaction?
It is certainly not all the distraction - -
That comes from being focused on “things”.
We strive for the freedom of a heart with wings.

To live our life the fullest that we can
We must set right with our fellow man
Times when we were wrong and hurt
Of this we try to stay alert.

The true test of a life that has left its mark
Is the love we were willing to share in the dark.
Extending our hand in a multitude of ways
Not boasting of how we had spent our days.

Our journey on earth will pass on.
Even for those who play the con.
Within myself at peace to be
Is what I hope for eternity.
