Life Returns As Winter Ends
The skyline of denuded branches
Standing sorrowful and bleak
In the winterscape of what had been
A bright sunlit garden of joy.
There are lumps of melting snow
Still sitting on the unkempt lawn
And on the stone slabs of the steps
That lead to our home, our world.
I could not go out or ride today
My bike or play with my friends.
There is such a biting wind chill
That drives the temperature down
Far below zero as the wind howls.
Some more days of eager waiting
And the sun will shine bright again
Life will return and the winter end.
The plants will bring forth flowers
The lawns will be shining and smiling
The trees will be in regal splendor
As new leaves fill them and hug them
Like children to their loving mother.
