Life Is Near

Life Is Near

Every day in every way
Death creeps in relentlessly
Ceaseless
Kept under cover candy sweet protected

Sugar and salt are flavors strange
Touch on sensations raw

Death comes between sliced bread
Nothing in between
Sent to sensations, to the edge alone
We love them and they love us

Sandwiched on the other side of life
Stinging to that end

There is nothing wrong with death
Religion tells us so, blesses it

Fear is not the enemy
It is clear when faced with pleasure

Life sets in
The illusion dampens, numbed feelings within
Think twice when faced with it

Around each corner waiting
Fear of life is contemplated
To that end, one end
Life is fear simply punctuated
Permission never granted

Like fruit it is always near, perishable and clear of purpose
Life comes with no specific expiration date
No guarantees
Only fear of being in existence is
That constant howling in the wind
Halloween with rain, October's name

This is a fine free verse poem. Deep and reveals that our existence has from its start a fear that grows ..A7

Hi Robert, Thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoyed my sardonic creation. I wrote it in a rush. I felt and feel that it needed major adjustments so I rewrote it. You should have the opportunity to go back to my poem and change your evaluation. Feel free to do so. I appreciate your comments. Have a great day. Earl
