Life Is a Tree

Havn't you heard?
Life isn't fair.
Nobody listens,
Nobody cares.

Everybody lies,
and covers them with smiles.
Nobodys true,
Always in denial.

Everybody hurts.
We all feel pain.
Nobodys perfect.
Nobodys sane.

Life is a tree.
Outside dark.
Nobody looks,
Beneath the bark.

You can laugh all you want,
but soon you'll see.
Nobody smiles,
When they're the tree.

Wow, very powerful. I love the directness in your approach. I've thought about this problem myself for about 2 and a half years. One thing I can say is I did in fact look beneath the bark, for like maybe a few seconds. That's all I can handle at any given time since I start crying almost immediately afterwards. All you have to do is ask why people feel this way. What's driving all of this denial and smiling cover up? Then get ready for the answer...

Excellent use of this form, Catherine. Some Native Americans call trees 'Standing People" and your write here brought that imagery to mind ... smile ... great choice to be a feature this week at the Soup. Congratulations!
