Life Is a River

We float along with the current
Taking some note of the surroundings
That lie just beyond the bank.

Sometimes, we navigate to that bank
And explore what lies just beyond.

Sometimes, what we find
Enriches our lives.

Sometimes, what we find
Is wrought with danger and disappointment.

Sometimes, we stay awhile
Absorbing what we find -
Enriching our minds
And opening our hearts
To untold new experiences.

Sometimes, our instincts
Warn us that we dare not linger
Because the unseen dangers
May leave scars that will never heal.

We learn from every exploration -
Sometimes good,
Sometimes bad,
But each venture out
Is a lesson we needed to learn.

The journey down this River of Life
Is long.

How we make it;
The lessons we learn;
The choices we make;
How long it takes;
Are based on our own free will.

Until ultimately,
We are destined to discover
Whether we might sink or swim
In that vast ocean of dreams.

"sink or swim", so many possibilities. Mermaids, and sea lions... a wonderful read. A lovely creative, intuitive write. Ann
