Notes About The Poem

Quincy is a male name derived from the fruit quince, a juicy relative of the pear and the apple, one of the earliest fruit known.

Anjou is a female name and a type of sweet and juicy pear.

The poem is a true story of how my soulmate, lover and wife, started our union. It was indeed a peach, that ignited our journey together.

Life Is a Peach

Life is a Peach

‘Quincy’ had been treading on the eggshells of his brittle mind
cracked up pulverised shattered he had cracked them to dust
To little avail with just viscous gooey yolk that had turned
into neck brace and yoke at the gruesome gallows garrotted

‘Let me try milk’ the heartbroken Prince imagined for the days
of reckoning had come in a last pitch attempt not to drown
on the downtrodden slope that his life had become and so
stripped of the crestfallen crown he treaded milk into butter

A tree overhanging the scuttle teased him to stretch for the one
lonesome peach hanging like an apple from Eden with soft silky skin

‘Anjou’ had come from the heavens sent by the Sun God and she
herself had slipped on life had been abused and twisted in many
fell swoops like a tree cropped by the sword that battled her soul

‘Quincy’ gave her the miraculous peach which beckoned all that he had
bare as he was in an innocent gesture of longing and dreams
‘Ever since I was little I knew that one day a Prince would gift me
a peach juicy and fleshy and then my sorrows would vanish’

‘Quincy’ and ‘Anjou’ melted together and this time around the slithering
snake was benign the Universe kind so there was no falling from grace

Together and from now joined at lips and hips they travelled in tandem
shared skins and the core of their hearts essence and life force

They eloped and escaped the delusion that existence was over
dodged pitfalls and traps married the union against all the odds

One expression of love given and taken and sky was their peach
