life in the country

ninety degrees at noon
every tree branch is moving
proof there is a breeze, yet I do not feel it

whew whew whew whew whew
songbirds
I am on the porch, listening

a wasp flies past
I hear a loud plane
it sounds like a sonic wind tunnel

a bee glides past
my dog’s tongue is out
two two two, another bird

my gardens need tending
I notice lots of weeds
tall ones

three cardinals swoop down from the roof
two head toward the forest
one turns and dives through the fence next to me

it is a chain link fence
I am amazed she fit
she makes a ninety degree turn and flies away

the dog has not noticed
he flopped down like a loud bag of bricks
the wind chimes move without sound

too too too too too
another bird
the wind chimes begin to pick up a tiny tingle

I notice insects buzzing
a gentle July day
life in the country
