Life In the Country

wild strawberries permeate the meadow hill
Lilies and daffodils have retired as lilacs appear
Crepe myrtles are looking at their bloom calendar
country smells are in the air, feeling wholesome here

daisies intertwine the barbed wire fences
the blackberries are starting to form in a bright tiny green
we can till the land now, but planting must wait a few weeks
we never know when we might get frost

I dance my delight at getting to live in this heaven-scent place
wide open spaces with oak, willow, walnut and elm trees to hug
some grow renegade, others were planted by me
the peach never grew but the optimism felt here made me try

Joy surrounds my soul as I sip my coffee
It is okay to scarf down biscuits and gravy
The rooster is crowing and the hens are excited.
Time to feed the livestock. Life in the country!

It simply cannot be beat, Caren. Give me the fresh air of the countryside any ol' day!

The bad part is - some buffoon dumped a bunch of old lumber and house torn down junk ten feet from my driveway again this weekend, and people are always dumping dogs and cats.
