Notes About The Poem

Doctors Orders Gin

- Life In Hell -

Early morning
his first thought:
A glass of Gin
A refreshing effect
Relationship of evil to
devil's medicine

One glas
becomes to three ... or five
The clock shows half past seven
in the morning
Mother and the children wake up
It's a new working day
and school for the three children

He hides the bottle
The brain is anesthetized
The glass falls,
crushed in the sink
He is completely unable to act

Fear and despair
Protects their children
Economic difficulties
The shame! - Oh ... that terrible shame
Mother was depressed
and was simply not
strong enough to leave him

This poem brings back a childhood memory Anna-Lise. Mother trying unsuccessfully to smash a bottle of brandy father had unsuccessfully hidden.

Hi Ann-Lise , If alcohol is abused, it can be total devastation to the "all" of the loved ones. You expressed that well in this well written piece. I wish you the best of luck in the contest:-) Alexis

Addiction to alcohol is a terrible thing Anne-Lise, even worse when one starts the day off with it and then tries to hide the evidence, at least they do initially, after a while they don't care, nothing matters except the addiction. I don't drink so dont understand it, but as you say, we all know someone who does. Powerful write, good luck in the contest....Maria xxx

Is this a true story? It is quite sad if it is. Yes - collecting postcards is a good hobby -some people make a living dealing in them. Hope for the best - it is really all we can do. Peace & Love Matthew Anish

I enjoyed seeing you write a bit differently from the norm with this one, Anne Lise. Also, I like that original title you had for it. It has quite the ring to it, sad as hell! Some people just can't leave even when they know they need to.

Having alcohol even before the day starts is not a good sign for harmonious family life and when the mother can not defend her children then things get worse. Your fine sociological poem brings to light this point my dear friend, Anne-Lise! Good luck! Hugs!

The addiction caused by many problems, it has been the ruin of many. And many hide in the bottle instead of seeking help. Great verse Sunshine. Good luck in the contest Tom
