Life Gets In the Way

Sometimes life gets in the way, as we toil and strain through the pain of lost dreams and future schemes. We want to think we're in control while Fate just laughs and takes its toll. So there you are with thoughts of love and fun when suddenly it all comes undone. What can you do? Live a lie and say good-bye to your hopes and dreams? Or...just run away? Living for yourself can be freeing but you stay. You play the game. You are tame ...or insane. Who's to blame? By: Carole O'Terry Duet Copyright: 2016 "All Rights Reserved"

Great verses that remind us--we are responsible for the actions -we- choose to take. Additionally Life tends to toss its boulders at us as we travel along in our journeys. Failed dreams being one of those huge falling boulders. Superb poetry my friend. A fav..

SOCIETY is to blame! To me, your poem reminded me of many I've writen about being hit with crapola from 'left field' - things you didn't see coming, couldn't see coming, they hit you blind and interrupt life. A phone call, piece of mail, a conversation, etc. can alter your harmony in one second! I truly enjoyed your write, even if I took the meaning different than intended, it worked by taking me somewhere. Good work, Carole. All the best ... CayCay

Thank you for you your comments, CayCay. Yeah, it was meant to make you think...and there are a thousand different answers...but most of the time it comes right back to ourselves.

I think people are such creatures of habit, we fall into a comfortable routine. After you've flipped the boat over a couple of times, once we get to a certain age we tend not to rock the boat if we don't have to. Dreams tend to rock the boat. Love the write Carole:)

Thanks for your comments, DT. And, you are so right. Life is easier when we don't "rock the boat" but sometimes we have to do what's right, not what's easy and that means taking a chance which is hard to do the older your get. Your comment reminds me of that song, "Rock the Boat".
