Life After a Double Shift

Life After A Double Shift

Finishing a double shift
The sun set hours ago
The TV has nothing to watch
My friends have to be doing something
I don’t want to be alone
Sleep is going to be nonexistent
I have too much energy to wind down
A cab has been called
When it arrives I will go to the bar
Not just any bar
The one where I am well known
The one where my friends hang out
It is late
The bars close at two
Every tick of the clock takes time away
Limits the fun that I can have
A couple drinks
The hot blonde at the end of the bar
Will I have the time?
Do I have that amount of luck?
The cab door opens when the bar is in sight
My friends are standing outside
One has his arm around the blonde I was hoping to meet
I look at the clock in the town square
Squinting my eyes I have to make sure
The clock says 2:01
The time and a half was not worth it
A $23.00 fare for nothing
But that is my luck
Damn luck

The answer here Rob is to have a hot young blonde waiting for your second shift to end and a bottle of Jack Daniels opened and ready to be poured.
