Liberty's Prisoner
Tattered pieces of memory
Infect my hollow dreams
The silence forever shattered
With the sounds of distant screams
My home, almost forgotten
As my family fades away
They crumble with the sands of time
A little more each day
Awakened by the thunder
Again, I thirst for peace
While hunkering in my shelter
I beg for the hell to cease
Time here has no meaning
Yesterday, so long ago
Tomorrow, just another prayer
A place, I may not go
This battlefield has become my home
As death, stands idly by
A prisoner, for our liberty
Yet for freedom, I'll probably die
So please don't take for granted
The sacrifice I make
Count the cost of all the lost
With every breath you take
