Liberated Sanity
I found friends tunneling
huddled cloistered from the light
grief embraced the darkness
swaddled by veiled night
in a cave sequestered
bitter air smothers life
breath stifled chokes
struggle surrenders a life
deep dark and constricted
in a dank sandstone room
fanciful fabrications
begot a grotto tomb
tapping me on the shoulder
shadows dance teasing my eyes
a voice spoke commanding
Lazarus arise
probing rays in the shaft
pierced the blackest hollow
lighting a trail back
baited me to follow
I held the key that sprung the lock
broke the chains turned back the clock
a Phoenix rose melting cavern sand
on which I also rose to stand
