Levitation
Twenty minutes after
strangled candles
have been left without a neck
to brace the branches on the tree hanging lower
and calm has conquered & completely
overtaken deafened choir -
their note of silence dangled
like a lost set of novelist’s keys
directing ground turn to sky
for eyes of a mother now unflocked to fly -
you knead me at the bakery no one knew existed
who watched it burn, outright, all night
the night before you & me
we go anywhere together we want to go,
the pulse of my palm pressed against your ploy to pry.
