Letting Her Out

I found the one thing they all rushed to catch
Before it could ever float away to return no more
I found this dear called love and mama couldn't be more proud of me
She said child hold on to it and never let go
By all means necessary l fought
I fought to keep the world happy and like a martyr
True self was sacrificed
Betrayed by guilt
It's fate sealed by miseducation about life
My world, the center of my universe
I now choose to live and this time l come first
I will be the iron lady l hated so much and tried to melt
I will be that child who knew all the answers
Then she was too humble to say them out loud
I will be the poetry writer who was never afraid
Who expressed how she felt
This time not only in a piece of paper
I will embrace pretty and brainy as a part of me
Never try to trim the edges
I have opened the door way and now am letting her out
