Letting Go

Looking back in time, I can remember
Every hour that we had spent together
Told me about the way you viewed life
Things you thought were important and right
I would listen, try to understand and agree
Not stopping to see if I were being true to me
Getting mixed emotions, should I stay or go.

Gathered my strength, I had to be bold
On a chill morn, our friendship grew cold.

Fast friends, we had so much in common
Shared like sisters, no confidence too sacred
Yet in time, hasty words, said too often
Broke our trust, and our bond disconnected.

              true friends share with care
            careless words cause broken hearts
                     time to let you go

We are always bitterly disappointed when we have to let a friendship die... but in the long run it is usually for the best. A good point here Laura, well expressed. Best wishes, Keith

This one resonates with me fully, and I too have felt the sting. A friend is someone I feel my most natural self around, and the definition cannot be tampered with.

It's difficult to let a good friend go, but when painful words become habit that's hard to live with. I could feel the pain in this well written piece, congratulations!

oh my, THIS could have been about MY friend who deserted me over a silly little thing that she blew way out of proportion! I really like where you took this theme. It is great to see how everyone took this in different ways. BIG congrats here too.

Thank you, Andrea! It is strange hoe quickly friendships can change and go sour. I was so upset for a long time afterwards, too!
