Letting Go
Guardian angel to our boys
Eighteen plus years she gave us joy
Within her last years she lost her way
Doggy dementia slowly took her away
Heart wrenching decision stays with me still
But here I will tell it with strength of will
Her face with eyes of liquid brown
Trustingly upon my arm lays down
My fingers gently stroking velvet ears
She looks at me and shows no fear
I place a kiss between her eyes
She licks my face one last time
As her eyes slowly close
The rythym of breathing starts to slow
Stethoscope placed against her heart
I hear those words "She's gone now" miles apart
My tears flow strong, free, unchecked
It's a decision I'm still not over yet
