Letters To My Grown Up Children

To my son’s….
The world will tell you to be so many things.
Your boys want to hang with a guy so fly
he drips women off with casual disregard.
Media will tell you women want a man with a certain look flair,
a certain charisma who can sweep a princess off a chariot to save her.

Seek the soul who want’s a partner.
Listen closely to words unsaid
and wait for soul whose substance is grounded in reality.
She will want a partner not a savior.
She won’t need the masculine image of media,
she will love the constancy of your heart
the surety you have her back while you forge ahead together.

Seek out the fire who ignites your world
but can sit quietly in through the constant showers.

Celebrate you, and then celebrate the man you grow into as life brings new perspectives.

Be a man who can provide, who is stable and sure when bad weather comes.
Remember to love widely and humbly without reservation
so everything you stand for doesn’t become what you stand under.

To my future daughters…..
The world will you tell you to be so many things.

You must be the vixen and the virgin,
while conquering the board room with your babe on your hip.

The roles are contradictive, addicting as you grow and struggle to fit
the image expected of the world peering at you.

It will gaze at you constantly.
Your image will calculated and weighed by the merits of the viewer.

So Stare back. Boldly. Fiercely. Confidently.

Walk with humility and pride as you celebrate everything that is you.
There are no roles you must fill but yourself.
Don’t become lost in their expectations, walk forward seeking substance.

Find a truth so real the resonance of it’s bell
rings with a clarity so pure the world sits and wonders.

You are both made by design for the other...
Celebrate the wonder of your being and power
and wait for the one whose shadow is the echo of your being.

You will recognize them by the truth not just of their words
but by the authenticity of their actions.

Then love with all your heart, abandon the expectations of societies roles. Enjoy the gift of a life shared
with some one whose support and love grows with each season of life.

Great advice all the way around. The world needs more people to understand your poetic expressions. Nicely done.
