Notes About The Poem

Let's Cook

Let’s Cook

My dear friend,
The book came today.
Well, actually the magazine.
It is the one you gave me
for the holidays…
(soft crying)

That seems ages ago now.
Yet today, the front cover…
was all about the upcoming days,
to spend with loved ones, friends, …
and…

Yet, not you.
(soft crying)

You got sick just after my first issue.
You were sick a long time.
Well, not really, but it felt so bad…
watching you each day suffer.

I would have traded a day for you,
to have a day of mine, just to give you ease…

You are gone now.
The pages of fun are setting on the table.
I can barely see the words.
Maybe they should print them larger,
for people, that just can not see,
when their heart is breaking…

I miss you.

I like when an ordinary thing (a magazine in this case) becomes a poetic crossroads of memories. The thing itself does not matter, but the human feelings - pain, anguish, despair - that meet on this crossroad do.

This piece has really squeezed my heart. Intense feelings that have poured out from your ink melted my eyes. May you get all the strength to endure this pain. Hugs from India.

Wow, that was so sad. This hurt to read. The feeling of loss and emptiness conveyed via a magazine sitting unopened on a table. Absolutely heartbreaking.

You are so kind. Thank you. Yes...I miss her... We all have someone like that, if we do not, it is even sadder still... Ann
