Let Them Shout Amen

Let them shout

amen, not in my name;
mouth my praise, not with fear.
It suits to switch, twist the letter
of my word—distorting.

        Not the spirit!

They defame my word:
cravings of itching ears,
crusted hearts fit

        for wrath.

A curse swoops on wanton revelry

        shouting:

appoint a date,
make an
end
near.
