Let the Poets Speak

You've heard all
      the bombast of
pundits and politicians
Now it's time
          to let the poets
   speak
Starlight shines above
      we
         travel
                below
filled with questions
  and rhymes
      and loss
Now it's time for a change!
         Open your mind
   leave all your worries behind
Let the poets speak!

Indeed, we "speak" and hope the politicians are listening because they hold the power for change, Matt. Excellent poem packed with truth. I think I read "A Connecticut Yankee" back in high school, but don't recall the storyline. It may be time to revisit it now as I'm more interested in politics now. I take it you recommend this Twain tale and I just love his sense of humor. Well done, Matt, and thanks for the tip on Twain's work. Love, Carolyn

Matt, I am coming way back to your beginning here I never recall where i have left off with your older works, but I don't think I read this one before. Always enjoy seeing you here and seeing well written poems like this one. Luv, Andrea ps. WHy didn't you enter that contest that just closed, on free verse? Surely yours would have done well in it!
