Let the Past Be the Past
As I sit back and enjoy my morning pot,
Of coffee rich, black, and hot.
I look back on the years gone by,
And remember some of the mistakes I made, which constitutes a big old sigh.
And wonder what the outcome might have been,
Had I used better judgment way back then.
Would I be better off, or was this a learning thing,
Maybe to humble my thoughts as to the many obstacles this life will bring.
Like water that has traveled under that bridge, mistakes are much the same,
And when it’s all said and done, we cannot share the blame.
Ultimately it was a choice we made so we must accept responsibility,
And learn the meaning of the word that’s simply called humility.
After enjoying my coffee and clearing my thoughts on life,
I dedicate this day to be free from mistakes and strife.
And choose to look forward and not look to the past,
We cannot relive yesterday, but today we can make our blessings last.
