Let it Rain

Incessant rain fell like wet sheets.
Large wet drops and some hail
That bet upon the large, though thick windows.
Each drop a quiet thought in nature’s hand.
No one dared to venture into the streets.
Even sturdy umbrellas were useless
Considering the force of the wind
That blew all around the city blocks.
Outside it was like gelid frost,
But not inside where a fireplace spread heat.
They hugged each other for more warmth.
From the large windows, they studied the storm.
Rainwater flooded the streets.
Large rivulets gurgled into drains.
Who said rain falls mainly on the plain?*
Must have been a joke.

Inside a cozy home is the place to be when it rains like that, Victor. I loved the striking contrast between wild weather and cozy warmth. Lovely poem! :)

We've had some rain like that to visit our home from time to time, though, hail is rare. We had quite some rainfall where others here had snow, sleet, or freezing rain this weekend. We needed the rain but not the freezing and God granted us a stay from the freezing part. It is cold (freezing now), windy and sunny here today thank God for that. I need some sunshine. I know you say your work is fiction, so I know this one is from your imagination. Thank you for sharing it with us. Sara K

This is a rather unique yet superb poem on nature. Precious rain, an enchanting and superbly crafted poem, and the title couldn't be more appropriate.

Beautiful Rain Cameo, Victor. I liked the sound contained in “ Large rivulets gurgled into drains.” In movie, the person was talking about Spain, if I remember ? The line is : The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain. Love the title. Sending extra Sun to clear flood. Hot down here. Take care.

Rain in moderation is OK as the ground needs it, it's the monsoon like weather I detest. Tom
