"let It Be"

Sojourner's courage travels on
within a justice seemingly silent,
though mercy cries out
from those that still sing.
Our collective slavery
may be open to debate
but fate has decided
to bring youth again ...
Youth with time-wearied truth
rolling down from the mountain
that yes, indeed, we can be more
than the violence of our nature,
that yes we can love
and find greater forgiveness
no longer hidden underground
but here in our sight,
in the Light
as we stand to pray
that this time it will remain,
that we may not be deprived
of our audacity.

Hi Sue... I liked this.. quirky as it is.. but.. would have put some breaks in the lines... just to add/give space to digesting what you have written here ... I would have broken it down to four lines until reaching "in the Light" which would have been left as a single line.. leading to the next four.... ( just to give the poem some time to be "itself" ) but none the less its a powerful piece Sue, and full of depth... very well conceived and written

Time will tell, Sue. Prayer will help. The end of youthful apathy will help. Until we get some honesty in Washington, the "collective slavery" will continue. God Bless. Vince
