Let Each Poet Write With Elan

Diverse like each poet and the lives that they live
are the poetry forms in which they choose to write.
It isn’t important if some want to give
a set meter with rhyme, while some give insight
through verse that is free. There is no wrong or right!

Structured verse shows us a stunning array
of great classic poets throughout history
while free verse - I think in our world today -
seems by the modern standards to be
a publisher’s most preferred poetry.

I think what’s important is how well we touch
our readers! There is no one poet who can
please every reader because there is such
a contrast of views! One form is no better than
the other! Let each poet write with elan!

Yes, please, let us all write what we write, for none of us have lived the same steps, or endured the same diseases or people. Nice one!

Yes; I say "Amen" to what you expressed. Thanks for this prudent advice from you- dear poet, who to me is a great mentor. God bless you.

Nice encouraging words! Today most serious poets do not rhyme. My late father loved Wordsworth and Tennyson. He set 8 of my poems to music and I used to sing them! He passed about 11 years ago at the "ripe but disappointed" age of 81. My mother works 4 days a week at the age of 81!! She is a Democrat and like my sisters does not like Trump at all! It is so truthful and wonderful in many ways, Andrea. Free verse is my "go to", but I love trying new types because they make me think.

A gracefully penned ode to the glory of poetry, no matter the dress she dons - excellent entry for the contest, Andrea!

I certainly do agree with you here. It's kind of like the old Chomsky-B.F. Skinner debates n psycholinguistics: They were both right; they both had what to contribute. Well-done, Andrea! Cheers, Gershon

well said Andrea, each of us has a unique style of our own, and poetry would be rather boring if we all wrote the same...it's fun to experiment and explore the different types...enjoyed your write :) hugs
