Lessons from God's Word
Birth? I do not recall the time or place.
The first thing I recall remembering -
Mom was having a home permanent done
and I was banished outside to the yard.
I'm Ruth, I learned rejection had foul smells.
My grandfather was a circuit-riding preacher;
my second home has always been the church.
There I was introduced to Jesus, the Christ
His Father, God and His book, the Bible.
Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.
I went to college to be a teacher
and got to practice at Glendale Chapel
telling precious children - Jesus loves them,
reading the Bible and finding His words
like this one, as you go, tell folks about Me.
I found that teachers never quit learning
so in my twenties at Calvary,
University Church and Lewis Lane,
I played piano and sang in the choir -
Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised.
I learned to do ministry at Graceland
after I married and had two children.
Visiting folks in homes and hospitals,
jails, and schools, discovering The Lord’s command,
Love your neighbor as you love yourself.
At Wesley Chapel, I had wealth to share -
supporting missions, sponsoring youth camps,
At Sellersburg, we helped furnish back packs,
and made dishcloths to prompt folks to pray.
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation
Life’s long lessons include another lesson:
by good works man can never gain salvation.
No, it’s Christ's’ life, death and resurrection
which brings eternal life to believers.
For by grace are your saved and that not of yourselves.
