Less the Shell

"....... I would never have imagined
          The slow passion
          To that deliberate progress."

'Considering the Snail' by Thom Gunn

I'm too careful, not to be in a hurry
to get anywhere........(punctual)
Counter couture
Pay by check
Don't change my oil at home
Though I prefer bottled water
Westerns make the best film
2nd to war
I'm trained to cook a la minute
But can't stay out of the drive thru
Never collected rain or coupons
My conscience recycles itself
At least once a month
The rest ships off to landfill
By trailer or train
Hard to go green
When you enjoy the smell of gasoline
I read poetry on the net
And my dog gets walked twice a day
Sometimes three

When considering the snail
I think I must be....
Less the shell
