Legacy

I'm not your legacy
Or what other people say
I didnt walk your path
Or make the same mistakes
Who you are does not define
who I will be become
Your growth may be finished
But mine is far from done

I've watched your life crumble
Right before my eyes
Trapped in your regret
And swallowed by your lies
We may share DNA
Or be rooted from the same family tree
And although we may share blood
Your the person I describe
When asked who I dont want to be

In life I had to walk away
Travel a different path
Yet sometimes when people hear my name
they think of you and laugh
Society set my expectations
Based on who you are
They judged me as a bad person
And set a low bar
But like I've been saying
You dont define who I will be
I am my own person
I'm not your legacy.

powerful words...I can relate as I am sure many others can... people always compare other's but we are all individual with our own path along life... good write!
