Left the Light On

I left the light on So you could see where you're going when you come home But when I picked up my phone to see where you're at I remembered that you're not coming home Trying to write a good story but I haven't enjoyed each chapter People come in your life, but they leave faster Shed too many tears, I need laughter The more memories they give you, the more you grieve after You picture their face and remember their smell Their presence was a gift, so December becomes hell Photos around the house, making you smile and cry at the same time They told you everything would be better, and things became fine But they're no longer here to see it with you You wish to speak to them one last time, you hold their secrets with you You've got the last voicemail they left, saved on your phone You accidentally hear it, and cry because you remember they're not coming home Tomorrow isn't promised, make sure you tell you loved ones how you feel If you like her, let her know, don't spend the rest of your life trying to heal It's the bad times that make you appreciate the good You've got one life to live, so make sure you make it good I left the light on So you could see where you're going when you come home But when I picked up my phone to see where you're at I remembered that you're not coming home
