Left Behind

You stood still
while away I had to fly
yet our friendship will
always abide.

You are still there
stuck in the past
and I know where
my future is cast.

Into a world
of people with hope
their lives unfurled
freed from all dope.

As you stay in the past
I will pray each day
our friendship will outlast
your darkness and gray.

And, I want you to know
as I live in the light
you too can grow
away from your plight.

And join me again
in a friendship aglow
for as always then
I will love you so.

Hey Sue! Hope you had lovely Christmas. My poem is there in the members contests and also under my poems! Don't know why you are having trouble seeing it. Under Member Contests it is in alphabetical order beginning with title contest which is "The Heart of Addiction". Thanks for commenting on the other. I was in a Lord of the Rings type of mood when I wrote it. ~lol~. Hugs, me xoxo

Outstanding, this piece resembles a bit what I am experiencing now. The courage you have, and the talent given to you combined together to form a tough yet loving poem that is everywhere in your daily social life. Wow.

It is so true, Sue, especially in relationships that one seems to stay put while the other take off be it education or maturity. I liked this one a lot. Thanks for your welcoming wishes. Celeste

Sue - You know the longer I am clean and sober the more I hate drugs and the way they just destroy the lives of everyone that they touch - This poem is so true and also so heart wrenching - Best wishes & God Bless, MJ

So sad you had no choice but to leave someone near and dear to you behind. Your heart must ache so, as the love you feel is felt strongly. Good luck to them, hope they catch up to you soon. Love, Shar
