Leaving Poems On Pillows

Remember when you cried
   in the morning because you
'left a poem on your pillow'
at night... It was such a big
   deal and you even agonized
over it for a quarter of an
hour or so before you threw
   in the towel, realizing that
   you would never get that
   poem back in your head
   again... though poems are
   actually somewhat like buses
if you miss one, you'll catch
   the next one... When you
   come to that realization, you
   sleep better at night and
   wake up untroubled in the
   morning, understanding that
   what the world never reads
   it never misses

Gershon, I know exactly what you're talking about. 3 a.m. writing in my head, forgotten after falling back asleep. Such is the life of us poets.

wow, that is a really cool one. I thought it was going to be about an actual poem left on a pillow for someone. haha

Your poem made my day, Gershon, this happens to me all the time and I thought this was age related. I will sleep much better now that I have read your poetry. Thank you.

Ha, ha, ha! Of course, it's age related. We talk to ourselves as we fall asleep and the pillow absorbs the words. ~ Senioritis Strikes in Slumber

Wow. It's like you look into the window of a poet's heart. I love this.
