Leaving Poems On Pillows

Remember when you cried in the morning because you 'left a poem on your pillow' at night... It was such a big deal and you even agonized over it for a quarter of an hour or so before you threw in the towel, realizing that you would never get that poem back in your head again... though poems are actually somewhat like buses if you miss one, you'll catch the next one... When you come to that realization, you sleep better at night and wake up untroubled in the morning, understanding that what the world never reads it never misses

Gershon, I know exactly what you're talking about. 3 a.m. writing in my head, forgotten after falling back asleep. Such is the life of us poets.

Your poem made my day, Gershon, this happens to me all the time and I thought this was age related. I will sleep much better now that I have read your poetry. Thank you.

Ha, ha, ha! Of course, it's age related. We talk to ourselves as we fall asleep and the pillow absorbs the words. ~ Senioritis Strikes in Slumber

Wow! Fabulous creation, Gershon. You penned the reality of not just poets but writers in general. So many times I've awoken in the night with a poem or story in my head only to wake the following morning not able to remember much. I used to keep pen/paper on my nightstand so perhaps I could capture the ideas. Didn't happen. I finally came to the same conclusion you did...and I sleep better :-) Have a blessed day. Am faving this one, Sara

Wow. It's like you look into the window of a poet's heart. I love this.
