Leaves Talking

leaves talking like friends

                                           as
                            they
               free
fall

a spiritual wind kisses them red

                                                    and
                                    squirrels
                        scurry
            under
them

collecting acorns, dusting an earthen shelf.

                                 leaves
                              softly land
                            and are raked
                      into a great gathering
                   huddled in the autumn air
              leaves talking about life and death
