Leaves of Tea

The kettle boils, loose tea goes in
Making a soothing pungent brew
To sooth a weary troubled soul
A miracle from times long past.

How did they know so long ago
A tiny leaf from an ancient plant
Spread and dried upon the ground
Once brewed would heal the world.

Almost every nation treasures tea
The ritual observed in many ways
Some with sugar, cream or lemon
Teacups on heirloom silver trays.

In our haste to make it quick
A tiny bag attached with a string
In ceramic mugs with funny quips
Somehow it’s just not the same.

Dear Cheryl, thanks for the response! My favorite is English Breakfast, as long as it is served with a blueberry muffin! HaHa! Betty
