Leaves

Leaves

See the leaf caught in the gale
On freedoms wind away does sail
Departed now, from the twigs
How brief, their existence is

Some are trapped within a rut
Some stick together in a glut
Some spend their days all alone
Others drift where they are blown

Some are destined to fly high
Some watch others passing by
Some stay firmly on the ground
Others just whirl round and round

Some are blown far away
Some near home, they will stay
Some from place to place do flutter
Others remain, in the gutter

Some find themselves on top of pile
Their purchase there is so fragile
Held aloft from underneath
By the strong and humblest leaf

Relying so on game of chance
Upon the breeze perform their dance
Everywhere the leaves are scattered
Along the way are torn and tattered

And when their journey comes to end
Back with the earth the leaves do blend
Making way for those to come
The colourful, glorious,
Next Autumn.

I'm of the dry and withering sort, so no discourse for me. Lovely analogies in here, Richard. Great write, as is your wont. Licia :-)

You my dear friend are far from dry, particularly after a few drinks with ice if memory serves lol, nor are you withering, more like growing stronger on the vine, especially in your writing talents. Is that enough discourse for you :)

Lovely feeling the whirling and blowing of the leaves throughout this serene poem. Really like where it ended. Captivating all the way through :)

Meant to include that I did get the feeling the leaves as a metaphor for going about life. Very creative all the way through.

Sorry that I haven't gotten back with you in awhile. I develop into a workaholic during the summer... lol. Your descriptions of the leaves are fascinating... I've always thought it strange how the leaves are always so much more beautiful when they are dead, dry and just fluttering around as they may... Autumn definitely is glorious :)

Hello Richard, a beautiful poem, and lovely scenery, I love the image of leaves laying all around. Since I'm from Texas, I will admire the vivid view in your poem. Our Autumn, is not as fascinating when it comes to colors. sometimes when the leaves fall and settle upon the Earth, we rake them so quick you won't know they touched the ground.. our dry leaves are not attractive. I wish our leaves would journey in this manner, making way for seasons to come.... xox~ Linda
