Leave Me In Nature
-For Gabby Petito
‘Leave me in nature, for
Nature is kinder than any man’
But we will take him.
We will drain the last drop of life
From his body, as he did to you.
The colour will leave his eyes
And he will stay here, with us. Never
Free. Alone forever. Restless.
But you we leave to rest in eternal peace.
No animal shall harm your body;
He has already done enough.
We will leave you as you are;
Your soul will remain untouched,
But we will take him.
Though he himself chose death,
We will take his soul from his lips
And the skin that hid a heartless body
Until there is nothing left of him
But bones (the only important
Part of him anyway)
For that is the best apology we can give.
So when they discover you at last,
They will know your heart was beautiful.
