Leave Me Alone

“Wherever I am, the world comes after me” ~Mary Oliver

Oh, this fastidious world
just wouldn’t want to leave me alone,
It nags me, stalks me, and
tries to wean me away.

It believes not that I am but
a transient traveler
through the corridors of time,
An echo
from the void of the past,
An apparition
from the shadows of oblivion.

For all its worth,
I may one day drop the world
like a weary Atlas,
And forever
disappear into the great beyond.
