Learn I Will

Learn I Will

Poetry my life new phase
Comes in many styles
A skill I yearn to learn
Learn I Will

A ditty here, a rhyme there
Haiku what is that?
Limerick does not sound to bad
Elergy - a poets sneeze to writers block?
Acrostic - echos words that are written?
To Learn I Will

An Ode for old times?
Cinquain - a herb or so I thought
Lyric - A poets song to verse?
Dimante - on which it shines?
Lots to Learn I Will

Ignorant and amateur that I am
It only shows to well
I have so very much to learn
And Learn I Will


It is time for me to come to you and help me understand
Friends on P/S will you take my hand?
To guide me through this world of verse
To help me understand
Learn I will

I do not know if what I write is poetry at all
Either in its shape or in its form
What catergory if any, does it fall?
Ramblings of what is in my head
I write as it speaks to me
I Will Learn I Will

Do I have what it takes to be a poet?
That I do not know
Learn I will

It opened my eyes to see so many different forms, if you go to menu and types of poetry it lists all the different forms with examples. Ive learnt so much in three years ive been here. James Inman August 29, 2020 at 6:28 AM By the way, welcome to PS. There are some exceptional poets here. The contests are fun. The forms, again, are challenging and fun to write, keep in mind, most all types of writing can be considered poetry; for example, prose (short stories and novels) and lyric (songs) would be considered poetry forms not just the classic forms such as Haiku (much harder to write correctly than you would think), sonnet (many variations to this form) or say limerick. James Inman August 29, 2020 at 6:17 AM "I write as it speaks to me," the essence of poetry. I believe you are already a Poet and have been even before you wrote your first poem. Forms are wonderful and challenging to play with, but they are about writing poems not about being a Poet, that comes from within, being able to share yourself. I have read beautiful poems that have seemed hollow and others that have not followed form and have misspellings and bad grammar but were filled with profound emotion. That is a Poet. Good Luck! I look back at my first "so called" poems and realize they were simply short stories. But the poets here are ever so accepting, encouraging and kind!
