Leader of Men
Leader of men

You looked back
One last time
Took a match
And burned it to the ground
As you glanced
At that fateful house
I knew then
The fire would strike
Like lightning in a bottle
Like cats on a hot tin roof
Like black holes in space
You always felt you'd lose
All that energy trapped inside you
So many suns and energy
I knew you had to explode
And let it all be free
Let the lightning strike the glass
Let the cats shriek their chorus
Let the black holes create wormholes
It's time to change your story
When you walked away
Fiery halo glows
You looked like a warrior angel
Ready to strike God's blows
Like a stone skipping on a pond
Like autumn's leaves drifting to the ground
Like a pilot breaking the sound barrier
The ripples would flow around you
Let the stone skip forth your message
Let the autumn give way to winter
Let the boom shake loose the residue
Of this life you're leaving behind
You travelled around the world
You learned about cultures and beliefs
You remade yourself from the ground up
The foundations humble and fierce
You never returned to this town
Who could blame you for what they did?
But sometimes I see you around
When I'm astral travelling in dreams
Like the snow on the highest mountains
Like the dewdrops on the sweet crocus in spring
Like the lambs who are born so innocent
You are reborn and strengthened by Him
Let the heights guide your aspirations
Let those dewdrops keep you clean
Let your innocence always remain
As you become a leader of men
