Late Night Snowfall

LATE NIGHT SNOWFALL

At the window like a child
Seeing her first Christmas tree,
Eyes dancing with delight,
Caught by each flake as if the last.

Red lights from the city below
Filled her lovely lively face with
Mischief – she opened the window and
Flung a fistful of pristine crystals
At me standing behind,
Then turned and pushed freezing
Hands onto my bare back
And grabbed my arms –

Oh, a hold so cold !
It made me shout out loud !

Her icicle fingers buried under my arms –
Tumbling into bed for warmth:
We melted into each other
And laughed as we fell asleep.
