Last Words

I’ve written all the poems I could write
in this short span of earth life given me.
This final poem may seem a bit trite.
My finest sonnet it’s not meant to be.
It is a declaration of my love
and gratitude for you who now are here
to see me off! Know I’ve had plenty of
good living, so you need not shed a tear!
To relatives and good friends listening
to these last words of mine, you need to know
I hold you precious. More than anything,
have faith that to a good place we all go
and that I am with loved ones passed away.
I’ll see you all again one blessed day.

July 16, 2018 for Gregory R. Barden's My Muse, Mortal - Poetry Contest
(blessed pronounced as two separate syllables
Also, even though I pronounce poem as one syllable, I am using Howmanysyllables.com to count it as two syllables)

I just loved this, Andrea, and totally agree with Line - not remotely trite, but heartfelt and woven like a window tapestry - diaphanous and sweet, that lilts along in the breeze! Gorgeous imagery and phrasing, and I know this came from the soul ... you will always be one of my favorite poets here, and THIS is a perfect example as to WHY! Congratulations on your THIRD PLACE in the 'My Muse, Mortal' Poetry Contest - blessings, Buddy! :-) <3

Andrea, I couldn't help but shed a tear just reading your entry because you have been such a great support to me and a true friend over the years. I know those you leave behind will miss your smile, your tender caring touch, and the love that flows from the great poems you write. Congratulations on your win!

It is everyone wish that we see departed loved one even people that have died said they see them, but I kind of believe what John Lennon said you leave one car and get into another

Goodbyes are always so sad, glad it's just a poem for a contest...but sometimes we don't even get to say that last goodbye..

Wow, it is a really touching write, a nice goodbye to everyone, I wish you best of luck in the contest but I wonder that when the last breath comes, will it gives us enough time to say goodbye to all the love ones, this moment we are alive, God knows whether we will be able to have other breath or not, that what is the cruelty of life, good luck and have a really nice day

This would be pre-written on my death bed to have it read by someone at my funeral. That was my idea anyway, for his contest!

Great take on the contest prompt, but you had me wondering, too, at the beginning - until I figured it's probably for the mortal muse contest. Good luck.
